I'm not doctor, but I can't imagine it's normal to have that kind of pain 5 months later.

Not normal to have the same pain after 5 months. Get that thing MRI'd again -- that's the only way they can see what's going on in there.

I had mine worked on and was back in action in about 3 months time, and that was taking a little extra time off to get back into shape (i use that term loosely) before playing again. I would get that checked out again, that pain seems odd.

did you get repair or removal? the recovery for repair is a lot longer. if removal, there might be an issue. for removal, i was told 3-6 weeks for full recovery.

as an aside: I'm at the 3 week mark and I'm just a day or two from getting back to the gym, likely another week or 2 before playing again.

In the midst of a sterling rehab post-meniscus and ACL surgery, I developed a sharp, very localized pain at the side of the knee (first noticed in the rehab pool, strangely enough). It was something called the IT band. A couple of sessions of specific therapy (mostly the electrical-stimulation thing where they put the electrodes on your knee and you can turn up the wick as necessary) helped a lot.

I hope it's something as simple as this. As bad as the pain was, apparently it was not uncommon, probably due to certain rehab exercises putting an unusual strain on the knee. I did have to scale back stuff like treadmill speed and rehab weights for a few weeks, but the pain went away in time. Good luck.
