Weekend Warriors?

Hey guys thought I would ask the masses here..So my season is winding down and I plan on playing some summer hockey. I also planned on attending the weekend warrior goalie school, but checking out his fan page on Facebook it seems that he/they have closed up shop..Something to do with kids and work or something like that (go figure, family and life comes before hockey sheesh!! . Anyways seeing as how they are no longer running clinics, does anyone know of any other schools or clinics that are geared specifically towards the old fat adult lol..Looking for something within the GTA and fairly priced,..

Just looking for something that will help improve my game

I know there are few of these threads out there but wasn't sure where to put this one so feel free to move to the appropriate spot

Thanks

they are still going strong...

imo the goaltending coaching was fine for me as I totally stink and never had any coaching what so ever.

That said there are cheaper more effective options for goaltenders. You'll drop 1K on going to one of these by the time you factor in transportation and hotel. That'll get you quite a few goalie lessons from someone local to you. (if that's an option for ya)

I think this camp is more geared to skaters then goalies, BUT I would do it again because it was a fairly immersive experience and playing at the verizon center was pretty darn cool...

yeah i seen that one, that's way pricey for me not too mention that its in another country lol..The one I was looking at was the weekend warriors adult goalie school here in the Toronto area.. This is the site here
About Us | Weekend Warriors Adult Goalie School | Toronto's ONLY Adult Goalie School

any news on whether they may be doing or someone else for that matter doing an adult specific goalie clinic i around Toronto

BTW pens: if I had the cash i would most likely take that trip and do the one in Montreal make it a mini vacation

Look into Bob Janosz's adult camp in Amherst, NY. Myself, along with several other members here have done this with very positive reviews. There's a thread on here too.

http://www.goaliestore.com/board/hoc...yone-else.html

It's realtively cheap, $225 ($175 if you sign up before April 15th) and well worth the money, IMO

Were you at the DC camp last March? I was there as a skater in the advanced group.

Goalie School

I've been to Mcguire's goaltending school in york university, for clinics, private lessons and semi-private lessons

Clinics are Friday nights in Oshawa or Sunday Nights at York University

If you are interested in going, drop me a line and I will see if I can make it......This will ensure that you are paired with an adult (during clinic or semi private lessons) as opposed to a kid

Fees are $55 for clinic and I think $70 or so for semi private, and $100 or more for private (not sure)

I have some other adult goalies that go there that I facebook everytime I go to ensure there are adults there

It's a real shame Morgan is not offering any more of these sessions. He is a great instructor and I learned a lot from his sessions.

In this pic, I'm the goalie in white and this was actually my first time playing as a goalie. Morgan is the coach.

I hope he'll eventually re-start them.

Here's a few place you might want to look at:

Team Shutout Goalie School (Located in Brampton and Toronto)

Franco Canadian Goalie School (Located in Vaughn)

The Crease Goaltending School (Located in Etobicoke)

Drop them an e-mail and tell them what you are looking for. They might just have a program that suit your needs.

Apparently, Weekend Warriors will be available in the Summer

I called and spoke with Weekend Warriors earlier this year.
They said they were incredibly busy during the regular winter season, but that they would have time and ice available for summer sessions.

I expect to see something on their website in April.

doh, sorry i was kinda off line aka actually working and not trolling forums for the last bit.

Actually I was at the D.C. camp the year before that. Didn't go last year, I actually had Rick send me an email saying he was desperate for goalies and wanted me to go, but he didn't actually offer a price break until the day before camp was to start. At which point having a family it's kinda hard to drop everything and go disappear for ~3 days.

You have enough goalies at camp ?

I actually went to the D.C camp last year after Rick found me through the rink I play at, begging for goalies. I didnt get a price break but it was one hell of a good weekend. The coaches ended up buying me drinks all weekend. And I ended up getting twice the ice time since they were so short on netminders.

That being said, unless Rick comes and finds me this year I probably wont go simply because the level of play/ice time isnt worth the cost overall, which is a shame because it really is a blast.

No problem, I hate when that work gets in the way! Yeah, he was so desperate that he was trying to find a way that I could play both. I think we ended up with 3 or 4, and the guys would have their coaching with Jim during the Novice sessions, then skate with us in the Advanced. Rick actually played net for our final scrimmage in the last session. We got him a shutout! lol

Which goalie were you? I was there as a skater in the Advanced group. I was on white and play defense.

I'm struggling with the decision to go to the camp in Buffalo this year. Unfortunately I have a wedding the weekend of the DC camp, or I would go for sure. I'd love to go to any camp this year, and Buffalo will be the cheapest overall. But it's still going to be a $1,500 trip when all is said and done since I have to come from Florida.

Nothing against them but the one here is in Vail. Price of the camp is $750 and the hotel is $99 a night for a 4 day camp.

I agree, it's definitely a big chunk of change. But for a skater, the instruction is top notch. The killer is all the coincidentals like hotels and airfare when you have to come from out of town. The cost wouldn't be too bad if you were local and could stay at home.

Most folks local to Vail probably don't worry too much about the price tag.

I kid, it's not that bad a drive in the summer for anyone along the I-70 corridor. From here it would be over 3 hours.
